Atemi-Ryu comes to North Carolina
As a child Grand Master Lioni Velasquez was an energetic and accomplished martial artist in his
own right when he met Dr. Chenique and the legendary Dr. Moses Powell. Studying with both for
nearly 20 years, G.M. Velasquez is now the chief instructor at Musha Dojo.

Growing up, Professor Chenique traveled with his father, a Green Beret in the military, and was given the opportunity to
gain exposure to various types of Martial Arts around the United States and in Europe. It was this exposure to different
forms of fighting that allowed him to develop the foundation of the Atemi-Ryu system.

Professor Chenique soon became a student of Dr. Moses Powell,
the founder of the Sanuces-Ryu Jujitsu system, and Dr. Powell's
teacher, Master Florendo Vistacion, as well as many other
Grandmasters. In 1975, after attaining the rank of Shihan,
Professor Chenique established his form of Jujitsu and christened
it "Atemi-Ryu Jujitsu." Later, Professor Chenique went on to form
Chendokan Aikido and Atemi Arnis as his martial expertise evolved.

Professor Philip Chenique first came to the world of Martial Arts at the age of seven, beginning with
the study of Judo at the Y.M.C.A. in New York. He also undertook the study of Shotokan Karate under
the guidance of Shihan Barry Deutsch.

Atemi Ryu System of Martial Arts
Musha dojo is the North Carolina home of the Atemi Ryu system of martial arts. It has also become a unique martial arts
center. We have brought together the best martial artists in Fayetteville and built a school where sharing knowledge is
the most important thing. We welcome students and teachers from all martial disciplines and have opened our mats to
teachers of several non-Atemi Ryu arts.
